Acute Respiratory Failure, Covid-19, and the role of Blood Gas Monitoring

November 23, 2021

Radiometer are pleased to sponsor this live webinar, where Franz von Wirth, Principal Specialist for Transcutaneous pCO2/pO2 monitoring from Radiometer Medical, will discuss the synergies between arterial blood gas analysis and continuous non-invasive transcutaneous CO2 Monitoring (tcpCO2) in the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome. This new and interesting cornerstone can be used to monitor and assess the clinical course of respiratory interventions for critical COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.

About this webinar

This webinar will provide definite answers to some of the questions that may cross your mind, just 3 examples:

  • Is tcpCO2 monitoring feasible in the critical care setting and does it play an important role in monitoring of COVID-19 patients with Acute Respiratory Failure?
  • Is tcpCO2 in general a useful tool on ICU Patients in the monitoring strategy of hypercapnic acute respiratory failure to monitor titration corrections of ventilation support?
  • What important role can tcpCO2 monitoring play as a supplement to arterial blood analysis in invasive and non-invasive ventilated patients? For example, during complicated weaning with spontaneous breathing Trials.

Monitoring of clinical deterioration like rapidly progressive respiratory failure is part of the established monitoring strategy in critical care medicine. That is specifically significant for Covid-19 patients being very prone to deterioration of Type-1 normocapnic hypoxemic respiratory failure or Type-2 hypercapnic respiratory failure.
