Marianne Birch-Rasmussen started at Radiometer Medical in 1995 as an engineering trainee. Today, Marianne is responsible for a 30-people production unit, which works closely with the company’s R&D department.

 

Marianne’s meteoric rise is impressive when you consider her young age and the fact that she became the mother of two kids during the same period.

 

"I was privileged in two ways. First, I had a boss that made sure I kept getting the challenges that I needed in order to grow professionally," Marianne explains. “I have always felt appreciated for the work I have done. Appreciation is the biggest compliment you can receive as an employee.”

 

"Secondly, at Radiometer Medical it is ’socially acceptable’ to have a career and a family. You don’t get frowned upon for leaving early. As long as you do your job, it’s OK. In that way, you are your own boss."

 

According to Marianne, being a mother and a manager requires discipline and the ability to organize oneself. "Flexible working hours and the possibility to work at home from time to time is a big help," she says. "But it is the support and understanding you get from colleagues that make all the difference."
